malik ishtar: Biography

Birth of MalikFor over 3000 years, the Ishtar Clan were the tomb keepers of the 'Nameless Pharaoh' (Atemu/Yami Yugi). Each first son of the leader becomes the next successor after receiving the Tomb Keepers Initiation. Malik's mother finally gave birth to a son, after previously having a daughter (Isis) and taking in an abandoned baby boy (Rishid). Though soon after Malik's birth, she died.

Malik always yearned for his freedom, unwilling to be stuck in the underground tomb for the remainder of his existence. On his tenth birthday, he was given the Initiation - the Pharaohs secret carved onto his back via a hot knife, by his own father. The loathing The Initiationhe experienced towards becoming a tomb keeper only increased.
Striving to prove to Malik that he is not alone, and to establish his undying loyalty, Rishid inscribed the left side of his face with hieroglyphs. The glyphs on his face also help toward suppress Yami no Malik.

Malik always craved to see the sun, and the outside world. The Ishtar children had been forbidden to leave the tomb. Isis devised a plan, and with Rishid keeping guard, she secretly took him outside and into the adjacent village. Here Malik saw his first TV, and found a magazine with the image of a motorbike - the point in which he decided he wanted one for himself. Realising he would have to return to the tomb and reside there for the rest of his life, never having the chance to possess his own bike, merely fueled his anger and resentment.

When they arrived back, their father had discovered their betrayal and consequently punished Rishid by whipping him. By which point, when Malik saw this happening, his anger reached its climax, and Yami no Malik was officially born. After completely taking over Malik's body, the dark proceeded to seize the Sennen Rod, which the Ishtar Clan protected along with the Necklace, and murder his father with the concealed dagger in the Rod.

When Malik regained control of his body, and he observed his fathers bloody dead corpse, he became hysterical, seeking comfort in Rishid's arms. Out of nowhere, the spirit, Shadi appears, explaining to Malik that his fathers death was the Pharaohs will. Malik misinterpreted this to imply, it was the Pharaoh himself who murdered his elder, and from then on, planned revenge towards the ancient king.

Ghouls LeaderFounding the Ghouls, a collection of mind slaves (one of the Sennen Rod's power), he set out to locate the three Egyptian God cards to enable himself to conquer Yami Yugi in a duel. Though, only two were recovered: The Winged Dragon of Ra and Slifer the Sky Dragon. Isis obtained the third, Obelisk the Tormenter and lent it to Seto Kaiba to use during Battle City, the dueling tournament set-up as bait to lure in the Ghouls and Malik himself to attend.

Malik eventually arrived in Domino City via his yacht from Egypt along with his mind slaves as well as Rishid. Whilst riding his motorbike, he is stopped and confronted by Yami Bakura, the keeper of the Sennen Ring. They form an alliance, to bring Yami Yugi down. Malik then set-up an alias as Namu, and taking said name, befriends Yugi's friends.

Alliance with Yami no BakuraMalik tried several duels against Yami Yugi through his mind slaves, even going as far as taking Joey Wheeler as a slave, as a final resort to battle Yugi on the docks, blackmail included. Though despite his allegedly undefeatable strategy, Malik loses yet again.

Through his mind slaves also dueling around the city, he effortlessly collected double the mandatory amount of cards to enter the finals, along with Rishid, who poses as himself. Yami Bakura in addition makes it to the finals. Unbeknownst to them, Isis also had entered to hopefully defeat Malik herself.

On the Battle Ship, following several duels, it's Rishid Vs Joey. Rather than provide Rishid with the true Winged Dragon of Ra card, he gave a counterfeit. When the card is played, the Gods became irate and tried to smite down Rishid and Joey...and succeed. While both are attempting to unearth enough energy to regain consciousness, Yami no Malik took advantage and forced his way in control of the body entirely taking over Malik. This left Malik as a bodiless spirit occasionally taking over Anzu to enable himself to converse with Isis. He overhears Isis revealing the story of his past to Yugi and co, ultimately realising the truth about his fathers death.

Used as a pawn in Yami no Malik's Shadow GameDuring the concluding battle between Yami no Malik and Yami Yugi, Malik and Yugi are used as pawns in a shadow game - when one opponent loses their life points, their hikari's lose parts of their bodies to the shadows. At some stage in the fight, Malik's soul visits Rishid who happened to still be comatose. From this visit, Rishid finally regained consciousness giving Malik sufficient strength to reclaim his body. He succeeds, and Yami no Malik is banished.

Seeing the error of his ways, Malik apologizes, handing over the Rod and God Cards as well as presenting the Pharaoh the carvings on his back.

After the ordeal, the Ishtar siblings declare their farewells and travel back to Egypt on the yacht.
